Cliqz – a modern, Firefox-based web browser with a built-in fast search engine and equipped with the latest technologies ensuring user security and privacy.

The Cliqz browser implements a new search results display system, Anti-Tracking technology to protect privacy and an innovative anti-phishing solution, providing protection against fake websites and cybercriminals who try to steal our data at all costs.

Cliqz was initially developed as a quick search extension for the Firefox browser, released in June 2014. Cliqz has been available as a standalone browser since the end of 2015. In addition to the desktop version, corresponding apps are also available for the Android and iOS mobile operating systems.

Version 1.0 of Cliqz for Windows and macOS was released on March 8, 2016.

In early 2017, Cliqz partially acquired Ghostery’s trademark and technology to integrate its anti-tracking functionality and combine its data with that aggregated via tracking services. Shortly thereafter, Avira released the Scout browser, which includes Cliqz’s quick search functionality.

On April 29, 2020, the media group Burda announced that it was abandoning the project.

On March 3, 2021, browser manufacturer Brave Software announced the acquisition of Cliqz’s search engine Tailcat. This will become part of the company’s own search engine, Brave Search.

The project ended in 2021, the last version released on July 22, 2020.
