Google NotebookLM (LM = Language Model) – an online research and note-taking tool developed by Google Labs that uses artificial intelligence (AI), including Google Gemini, to help users interact with their documents.
Now with the NotebookLM app, you can create and access notebooks, ask questions whenever they come to mind, and listen to podcast-style audio reviews wherever you are with background playback and offline support.

NotebookLM was originally launched in 2023 as “Project Tailwind”.
The team behind the product includes non-fiction author Steven Johnson and product manager Riza Martin.
In mid-October 2024, Google removed the “experimental” status/badge for the software.
In December 2024, Google launched a paid version of NotebookLM called NotebookLM Plus for enterprises and paid Gemini subscribers.
On February 10, 2025, Google expanded NotebookLM Plus to individual users through the Google One AI Premium subscription plan. This expansion follows its initial release nearly two months earlier, when it became available to enterprises through Google Cloud and Google Workspace. NotebookLM Plus, initially offered on a limited basis, now provides advanced features designed to enhance research and organization.
