Plone – an open-source content management system (CMS). It runs on the Zope application server, written in Python.

Plone can be used as an internet and intranet web server. Its application range is very broad, from simple pages to complex corporate portals designed for both internal and external use.

The project began in 1999 and has become one of the most popular publishing systems. In 2004, the Plone Foundation was established, holding the copyright to the product.

In Russia, Plone began to be widely used after the release of version 2.0, which introduced a user-friendly translation system (as of December 2006).
