SPIP (Système de Publication pour Internet) – a web publishing system that focuses on collaborative functionality, multilingualism, and ease of use. It is free software, distributed under the GNU/GPL license. It can therefore be used for any website, whether for associations or institutions, personal or commercial.

SPIP is developed (programmed, documented, translated, etc.) and used by a community of people whom everyone is invited to join (or simply contact) on various websites, email lists, and at meetups.

The program originated in 2001 from an initiative of Minirézo, a collective advocating for an independent web and freedom of expression online. It is currently used on tens of thousands of diverse websites. This site serves as its official documentation.

SPIP is the most widely used free CMS in the French-speaking world, but it is also used in numerous other language regions.

Its main characteristics stem from the field of online publishing. It is used in a wide variety of sectors: institutional organizations (the French postal service, some French ministries), online newspapers (Le Monde diplomatique), non-profit organizations, university websites, and private websites.

SPIP 2 represents the transition from a classic CMS to a development platform for applications with distributed databases. Compatibility with older versions is maintained. The new SPIP is designed for two user groups with varying levels of technical expertise, ensuring it remains easy to learn while offering numerous new features.
