The name of the system is a combination of the abbreviation PIM, which stands for Product information management, and the word core.

Pimcore is a web application using the PHP programming language and MySQL/MariaDB database management systems. Pimcore’s component-oriented core architecture can be described as the best use of the Zend Framework, the Symfony project, and leading PHP architectural patterns and components such as Composer.

Key Benefits and Advantages:
– Data Modelling and UI Design at the same Time
– Agnostic and Universal Framework for your Data
– Extensible and huge Symfony Community
– Your Digital World consolidated in one Platform
– Modern and Intuitive UI

On March 30, 2017, the developers announced the alpha release of the fifth version of the application, which is based on Symfony Framework 3, with an estimated official release at the end of September – beginning of October 2017. At the same time, the fourth version (4.6.3) will be the last on Zend Framework 1, as it has reached the end of its life. It will not be possible to upgrade from version 4 to 5, so the first one will be supported until the end of 2018, so that all users can reinstall the application and transfer data to it.
