Scribes – an extensible text editor for GNOME that combines simplicity with power.

Scribes ia a developer-friendly text editor for the GNOME desktop environment, written in Python. The user interface is simplified, with no menu bar. A toolbar with icons for common commands and a context menu are available. Multiple file editing is supported via a multi-window interface with a window manager.

Other features include syntax highlighting, on-the-fly spell checking, automatic bracket pairing, text auto-completion, bookmarks, and the ability to create custom templates and code snippets.
