Windows Journal – an integrated component of Microsoft Windows. It is a part of the software developed by Microsoft that runs on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 operating systems.
This software allows you to take notes that allow the computer user to organize handwritten notes and drawings. To perform activities such as handwriting, the software can use a regular computer mouse as well as a Tablet or Tablet PC.
The application was first introduced as part of the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system and allowed users to create notes in the .JNT format. It also added support for printing notes.
Windows Journal was not significantly updated after its introduction and was eventually deprecated, although it was tested for compatibility throughout the development of new versions of Windows and was patched to address security vulnerabilities in May 2016. It was available in the initial release of Windows 10, but was no longer available in the summer 2016 Anniversary Update. All of its features are available in OneNote, which is integrated into Windows 10. OneNote does not support .JNT files, but Microsoft does offer the ability to install the journal and a tool to convert .JNT files to OneNote files.
On August 9, 2016, Microsoft released another patch (KB3161102) to remove Windows Journal from Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 due to the Journal Note File (JNT) format being vulnerable to security vulnerabilities.
